An apron only earns its place if you actually reach for it. Ours is built the way a working kitchen apron should be: cross-back straps that carry the weight across both shoulders instead of hanging off the back of your neck, hand-made denim that is soft and breathable but strong enough to stop a spit of hot fat, and pockets sized for the things you keep picking up.

Cross-back is the specification worth being fussy about. A neck-loop apron is fine for twenty minutes and a drag for a long Sunday session, and it rides up on a broader chest. Crossing the straps behind the shoulders means nothing touches your neck at all — which is why professional kitchens moved to the style.

What to look for: a full bib that finishes between mid-thigh and just below the knee, one large low pocket for a peeler or a thermometer, a chest pocket that takes a phone, and long cotton webbing so it genuinely ties on any build. One thing never to put in an apron pocket is a knife — it is a real injury risk when you lean into a worktop, and it blunts the edge.
